FedUpUSA Congratulates Janice Daniels, New Mayor of the City of Troy, Michigan

FedUpUSA is thrilled not just for Janice, but for the residents of Troy, who will finally have a government responsive to their voices.  The City of Troy will finally have a transparent, open and honest government.  There will be no more cronyism with our government servants padding their own pockets and pension shortfalls with taxpayer money while closing our library.  (Election Results)

We are confident that the City of Troy will return to being the City of Tomorrow, instead of the City of Yesterday.

FedUpUSA would also like to congratulate, Doug Tietz and Dave Henderson on their election to City Council.

In solidarity with the Occupy Oakland effort which has called for a General Strike on November 2nd, FedUpUSA will go dark for 24 hours beginning at midnight central time this evening and continuing through 11:59 PM on the 2nd.

During that time period only a banner will display indicating that we are on strike and committing no taxable events during that time period.

I know this is a difficult time in the markets, but the test of whether one believes in a thing does not come when it’s easy to commit an act — it comes when it’s difficult, and when you would normally be inclined to “make an exception.”

The lack of arrests and indictments against the police officers who shot Scott Olsen in the head, then attempted to prevent the lawful and peaceful evacuation of him following his injury by tossing a pyrotechnic device directly at him and the rescuers is unacceptable.

FedUpUSA has, since inception, stood for The Rule of Law for everyone, no matter how wealthy or poor, no matter their status in society and no matter who they know.  The First Amendment makes clear that it is a God-given right of the people to peaceably assemble.  No evidence has emerged tying Mr. Olsen to any violent action of any sort, and the video evidence of the police officer tossing the device into the group attempting to medically assist him has a pedigree with a bona-fide news organization along with being clear and convincing on its face.

Law enforcement officers have no right to commit acts that would be considered felonies if an ordinary person were to engage in the same conduct.  Shooting a man in the head with a projectile through reckless or intentional conduct fits into this category.  Attempting to prevent persons from assisting a person in medical distress is a dictionary-style exposition of malice and in addition to being a separate offense is so heinous that were it to be conducted in a war zone it would be considered a war crime to be tried at The Hague.

There have not only been no arrests of the police officers and no indictments the responsible parties have not even deigned to apologize.  This too is unacceptable.  The people have a right to free speech and to assembly; nowhere in The Constitution can I find a statement that “Assemblies must last no more than <X> time”, only that they be peaceful.

This is not about partisan politics and it is not about whether I do or don’t agree with everything that some organization stands for.  It is about one thing and one thing only in this instance: The Rule of Law — which is supposed to guarantee all our freedoms and fundamental liberty interests that no government has the right to abrogate.

I have therefore made the decision to stand with “Occupy Oakland” and all others who also condemn and find this action unacceptable, and as such I will commit no taxable act during the 24 hour period of November 2nd, and will not “make up” for said refusal either in front of or after that period has passed.

I urge you to do the same.

Journalist, author and award-winning documentary film director, Bill Still, announced today on radio station KTKK out of Salt Lake City, Utah that he will seek the nomination of the Libertarian Party for President of the United States. He says he is currently in discussions with potential running mates.

“My platform centered like a laser beam on the monetary reform issue,” said Still. “This is the root cause of all our economic problems today and until this is addressed, no amount of stimulus or austerity will fix the U.S. economy. The Republicans and Democrats are barking up the wrong trees. As the great populist of the 1896 Presidential election campaign, William Jennings Bryan, put it in his famous “Cross of Gold” speech:

“We say in our platform that we believe that the right to coin money and issue money is a function of government. We believe it. We believe it is a part of sovereignty….

“Those who are opposed to this proposition tell us that the issue of paper money is a function of the bank and that the government ought to go out of the banking business. I stand with Jefferson rather than with them, and tell them, as he did, that the issue of money is a function of the government and that the banks should go out of the governing business.

“When we have restored the money of the Constitution, all other necessary reforms will be possible, and that until that is done there is no reform that can be accomplished.”

Still has already picked up support amongst the Libertarian delegations in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Utah. “We may well be the front-runners going into the Libertarian Party National Nominating Convention on May 2-6, 2012 in Las Vegas.”

According to Still, who wrote and directed the 1996 classic, The MoneyMasters, the 2010 award winning documentary The Secret of Oz, and the 2011 book, No More National Debt, “Simply ending the Fed, won’t fix this.  As Prof. Milton Friedman told me, ‘If you end the Fed and do nothing about fractional reserve lending, you’ve done nothing.’”

“My proposal is very simple,” said Still. “It is really nothing new – just rediscovered at this critical juncture in U.S. history. As Professor Irving Fisher of Yale University explained it in his 1936 book, 100% Money:

“Nationalize money, but do not nationalize banking.”

“Here are the two inviolable pillars upon which any true reform of our economic system must rest,” said Still:

Pillar #1: End government borrowing. A sovereign nation does not have to borrow, in fact, being debt-free is the very definition of sovereignty. Pay off the existing bonds  — which is our National Debt — as they come due, but pay them off with debt free U.S. Notes (or their electronic equivalents) instead of Federal Reserve Notes, which are all borrowed into existence.

Pillar #2: Banks should only be able to lend money they actually have. This is called “full-reserve” banking. Before the crash, commercial banks were lending out between 10 and 300 times the amount of money they actually had. Therefore, they are in complete control of the American money supply, instead of we, the people being in control as is called for in Article 8:

“The Congress shall have Power To … coin Money, [and] regulate the Value thereof….”

What we have here is clearly a lack of understanding.  You see, the Constitution LIMITS the powers of government, it doesn’t expand them.  For some odd reason, Congress seems to believe the latter.  It’s time to remind them that the full extent of their powers are contained in a document that doesn’t even fill 35 three-inch by 6-inch pages.

We know our Congressfolk use The Constitution for toilet paper these days.  From Obamacare to the Department of Education kicking down doors on “no-knock” warrants to TSA rapescans and other forms of sexual molestation, The Constitution, Declaration and of course The Bill of Rights have been so widely disregarded as to become somewhat of a bad joke.

It’s time, coming into silly season, to put a stop to this.

Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, this is a movement you should be able to get behind.  The message is simple:  Send your Critters A Constitution.

First, order them.  I recommend http://www.nccs.net, although you can also obtain nicely printed pocket-sized copies from The Heritage Foundation and other places.  They’re cheap; 100 of them are just $30, or 10 for $7.50, or one for free – just send a SASE to them.

Second, go to http://www.house.gov and http://www.senate.gov and get the correct mailing addresses for your Representative and Senators.  Address up some envelopes.

Enclose a letter with it.  Feel free to steal the text of what’s below, modified to suit.

Please find enclosed a copy of the Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

When you assumed your office in Washington DC, you took an oath to uphold and defend The Constitution of the United States as black letter law against all enemies, foreign and domestic.  These are not “living” documents, subject to alteration at whim, theories or ideas.  They are, indeed, black-letter law and backed by the two seminal works in guidance on their interpretation found in The Federalist and The Anti-Federalist, much as the intent of legislation is backed by the record of debate in Congress, subject to alteration only through the amendment processes provided within.

Sadly, many Americans, myself included, are of the opinion that our alleged representatives in Washington, along with other elected and appointed officials, have forgotten their oath.  This letter is intended to remind you of the terms of the oath you swore and provide a handy pocket reference should you have questions as to your duties in this regard.

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent or otherwise is immaterial. Nor does it matter whether you consider your political philosophy Conservative, Liberal, Progressive or even Socialist.  You were elected to your office to represent your Constituents within the boundaries of the oath you swore, and that oath committed you to a duty to uphold and defend The Constitution, irrespective of your personal or political beliefs and ideals.

I, and others also sending copies of these documents, believe that a reminder of your oath and duty in this regard is in order at this time.  Please accept this gift, and be advised that I, along with others, are paying close attention to both your words and deeds, and we will not return you to your elected office in the upcoming election cycle if you are unable or unwilling to take your oath seriously, irrespective of your party affiliation or excuse for not having done so.

Thank you for your time in reviewing the documents that underlie the foundation of our nation, and may they guide you appropriately in your legislative activity.

Time your sending of these Constitutions and their respective letters to arrive on June 22nd for maximum impact, as that’s the day I and others, including the fine folks at the Market-Ticker, have chosen.

Let’s pepper Washington with the very documents that they damn well ought to be paying attention to each and every day, testing their intentions and legislation against the foundational law against which all such activity must pass.
